Regarding the shocking episode of homophobic violence that occurred in the historic center of Naples, where a 51-year-old man was arrested for stalking and mistreatment of his 24-year-old daughter, who in his eyes was guilty of being a lesbian, Antonello Sannino, President of Antinoo Arcigay Naples.
“We express our fullest and unconditional solidarity with the young woman, victim of her father's hatred and violence. This latest, very serious incident of lesbophobia in the family in our region leaves us shocked and forces us to reiterate even more forcefully the need for profound cultural change.,” declares Sannino.
“Like Antinoo Arcigay Naples,” continues the President, “We are now at the girl's complete disposal to offer her all the support she needs, both humanely and legally and psychologically. Our offices and professionals are ready to welcome her and guide her through this difficult journey. No one should feel alone in the face of such violence.”
Sannino then praises the police force: “We sincerely thank the Carabinieri of the Centro Company for their prompt and effective intervention, which prevented potentially even more tragic consequences. Their sensitivity and preparation are essential to protecting victims of hate crimes.”
Finally, the association announces its intention to take legal action: “As has been the case in other tragic cases, most recently that of the 16-year-old boy from Poggioreale who was brutally beaten by his father, and the violent attack on two trans girls in the Spanish Quarter, Antinoo Arcigay Napoli will consider joining the case as a civil party. The violence generated by homophobia and transphobia is a wound for all of society, and we intend to fight it in every possible way.,” concludes Sannino.
