Hannibal: words and visions
Homage to Annibale Ruccello – Towards Vesuvius Pride in Castellammare di Stabia
Sunday, September 14, 2025 – 7:00 PM
Karol Theater – Via Salvador Allende, 4 | Castellammare di Stabia (NA)

On the occasion of Vesuvio Pride 2025, which will culminate with the parade on Saturday 20 September in Castellammare di Stabia, a special event dedicated to one of the most disruptive and visionary voices of contemporary theatre comes to life: Hannibal Ruccello.

The evening, entitled “Hannibal: Words and Visions”, is organized by the Pride Vesuvio association with the patronage of the Municipality of Castellammare di Stabia, the moral patronage and with the support of the Karol Theater of Castellammare di Stabia.

Ruccello loved to define himself as an author who started from cinema to reinvent the theatre:
«I work in theatre because I love cinema and I get mortally bored in the theatre. From this contradiction my challenge was born: to create cinematic theatre, a theatre of situation and behaviour».
A theatre inhabited by «"banal, very common characters, inclined to become pathetic or heartbreaking, caught in an extreme moment of their existence"», marginal figures who transform into grotesque, monstrous, never pitiful.

After the institutional interventions of Luigi Vicinanza, Mayor of Castellammare di Stabia, Annalisa Di Nuzzo, Councillor for Equal Opportunities – Municipality of Castellammare di Stabia, Marisa De Martino, LGBTQIA+ Observatory of the Campania Region and Danilo Beniamino Di Leo, President of the Vesuvius Pride, the evening will continue with an artistic tribute animated by great protagonists of the theatrical and cinematographic scene: Gino Curcione, Giuliana De Sio, Cristina Donadio, and Antonella Morea and the scene photographer Peppe Del Rossi. The journalist will lead the dialogue Nicholas Garofano, which will accompany the public and guests on a journey through words, memory, and performance.

Ruccello declared that his best school was not the academy, but everyday life:
«My best school remains and will always remain the street, the people I meet in bars, hitchhiking, and mainly the people and events I met in my childhood and adolescence».
It is precisely this perspective, capable of transforming the everyday into the epic, that the event aims to celebrate: a bridge between memory and future, culture and rights, just days before the great Vesuvius Pride 2025 parade.

An event that combines theater and pride, to restore Annibale Ruccello to his role as a rebellious and visionary voice of our time.
