The QUEER TANGO BOLOGNA school was born in 2018 in collaboration with Il Cassero lgbtqia+ center, the QTB was the first openly Queer course in Bologna and northern Italy, together with other Italian experiences in Florence, Rome, Catania.

Queer Tango is a social practice based on mutual respect and consent, and aims to be a space where everyone can feel comfortable. And above all, a space free from judgment and prejudice, where sexism, homophobia, transphobia, racism, ableism, ageism, and body shaming are not tolerated.

Queer Tango isn't just a dance style. It's more of a worldview. It doesn't seek to assert itself or ask for permission, but rather to clearly affirm its plurality and the richness of all the identities that comprise it.

This is why Queer Tango Bologna is a militant tango.

*The History of Queer Tango*

Queer Tango was born between Buenos Aires and Hamburg in the 2000s and quickly became an international movement.

There's an ancient rule in tango whereby the inviter takes the lead. It's a matter of responsibility. For the one who wears the pants. A man's job, in short. Women are responsible for accepting or declining the invitation with a polite nod. And then following. Or executing, as often happens. But in Argentina, a group of women decides to rewrite the rules, the codes. They decide to reclaim the right to invite, to lead, to take the initiative, and why not, to dance, even between people of the same sex.

Nearly two decades have passed since the beginning of that gentle revolution. Queer Tango has become an expression of the feminist movement and the LGBTQIA+ community. A wordless dance to give a voice to those who didn't yet have one. From Argentina, it quickly spread to Europe and the rest of America as an artistic, playful, and intersectional practice, often applied to other areas, such as combating machismo in sports or strengthening female leadership.

Argentine Tango is a fascinating and wonderful dance and Queer Tango adds to the beauty of this practice, the value of militancy.
