Arcigay Pavia: Federconsumatori approves

Arcigay Pavia is closely monitoring the measures taken by Federconsumatori Pavia, under the patronage of the Municipality of Pavia, to protect same-sex families.

Federconsumatori, under the patronage of the Municipality of Pavia, has recently launched a project to help families. The project, made possible by the Banca del Monte di Lombardia Foundation, aims to provide family support of up to €500 for those struggling to pay unpaid gas bills in 2011.

The conditions for accessing the aid include the following requirements:

1. Unemployment of at least one member of the household resulting from termination of employment or atypical employment; redundancy fund or mobility with or without benefits for at least three months during the year. 2. ISEE certification not exceeding €15,000.00; 3. Citizens regularly resident in the Municipality of Pavia; 4. Not having previously received contributions from other organizations for the same purpose.

As you can easily see, you don't have to be married to access the subsidy. This was confirmed by a Federconsumatori employee, contacted specifically by Giuseppe E. Polizzi, a founding member of Arcigay Pavia.

This establishes a correct definition of family, in accordance with national, European and international legislation.

We recall that, according to Article 4 of Presidential Decree 223 of 1989, for registry purposes, a family is defined as a group of people related by marriage, kinship, affinity, adoption, guardianship, or emotional ties, cohabiting and habitually residing in the same municipality. These individuals may request to be included in the same family status register.

This means that even a homosexual couple or an unmarried heterosexual couple, if they are part of the same family, can access the benefits provided by Federconsumatori.

Another important step has been taken in Pavia to protect same-sex and de facto families.

This ban places homosexual families on the same level as married families, giving their members full social dignity.

We can only applaud the Foundation, Mayor Alessandro Cattaneo, and the Municipality of Pavia, which sponsored the initiative, for the correct implementation of the legislation regarding the recognition and protection of homosexual and de facto families.
