Homophobia: The center-right withdraws its motion against the Zan bill in the Brescia City Council.

[:it]

We learned of the incredible and disrespectful motion tabled in the Brescia city council by opposition councilors.

Disrespectful for all LGBTI people who suffer verbal, psychological and physical violence just because they express their being and personality or sometimes non-LGBTI people but “suspected” of being gay, lesbian or transgender.
We would like to remind you that freedom of speech is already protected by our legislature and is absolutely not threatened by the bill under discussion against homophobia, transphobia, and misogyny.
Freedom of speech is not the freedom to insult or abuse LGBTI people or women with language.
The new law aims to protect these people, who unfortunately still belong to the most vulnerable groups in what should be a progressive society, and whom we see every day as victims—we reiterate—of verbal, psychological, and physical abuse.
The time has come to stop this homophobic, transphobic, and misogynistic trend that too often leads to real crimes.
We hope the motion will be withdrawn because you cannot make crude political propaganda at the expense of people.
