""Unexpected Patients. Medical Practice and Sexual Orientation," developed by Arcigay with the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (National Institute of Health), is a product (innovative for Italy) aimed primarily at general practitioners and hospital doctors. It aims to promote fair, non-discriminatory, informed, and professional care for GLB (gay, lesbian, bisexual) patients.
Work is currently underway to publicly present and disseminate the project's results, which formally concluded in June 2003.
The team, made up of professionals in the field and enriched by the experience gained during the project, intends to continue working on these themes:
– keeping the email address [email protected] open, which in recent months has received numerous emails from patients and doctors from all over Italy, and has served as a hub for counseling, sharing experiences, developing networks, and exchanging information and best practices;
– participating in institutional events and conferences in the medical-health and psychosocial fields;
– personally designing and conducting both short monographic seminars and full-fledged training courses for industry professionals.
