The Palermo Pride Coordination, composed of over twenty associations, has established the dates of the Palermo Pride 2017 which will take place between conferences, meetings, shows and other artistic and cultural events in the period that will from June 17th to July 2nd, with particular attention to the June 28, World LGBTQI Pride Day And to the traditional Parade, scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, July 1st.
The new Board of Directors of Palermo Pride 2017 is made up of: Ambra Cannavò, Luigi Carollo, Maria Angela Fatta, Marco Ghezzi, Massimo Milani, Daniela Tomasino and Marco Siino, representatives of the large Coordination whose members are: Ali d'Aquila, Arcigay Palermo, Arci Palermo, Arcobalena, Articolo 3 “Salvatore Rizzuto Adelfio”, Radical Association “David Kato Kinsule”, Blow Up, UniAttiva Coordination, Exit, Rainbow Families, Gatta Di Pezza, Gino and Massimo Sposi, Rainbow Buddhist Group, Zen Together Laboratory, La Migration, Nps Sicily, Nzocchè, Palermo High School Students Network, Queer Sicily, Skip La Comune, UAAR – Union of Rationalist Atheists and Agnostics and UDU Palermo – Union of University Students.
The central theme chosen for the 2017 edition is: The Body between politics, desires, rights and transformations: A theme around which the meetings will unfold, and a theme that continues the political document and last year's theme (Migration). Reflecting in particular on the overlap between the transgender body and the migrant body, bodies today emerge as a central issue in the issues that affect not only the LGBTQI movement and community, but the community as a whole, insofar as phenomena of discrimination, exclusion, and marginalization begin with our perception of the body of the Other. By bodies, therefore, we mean not only the physical and individual bodies of each of us, but also those "immaterial" bodies with which we encounter and confront each other daily: the social body to which we belong, the legal body upon which our civil existences depend, and the body of desire, here understood as both subject and object.
The announcement:
The Coordination Board has opened the submission process for artistic and cultural projects and events to be included in the overall Palermo Pride calendar. Proposed events may include: concerts, theater performances, films, exhibitions, performances, parties, and book presentations. Each participant can submit only one proposal, and the Palermo Pride Coordination reserves the right to direct the event politically. Only private individuals (associations, businesses, cooperatives, etc.) are invited to participate in the calendar. They must also provide the space in which to host the event and arrange for the necessary permits, management of related services, the necessary funding, related taxes, social security contributions, and obligations of any kind. Please note that the Palermo Pride Coordination does not provide financing or co-financing.
Statements:
“It is a great honor for me to once again lead one of the most important demonstrations in Palermo, a demonstration that has managed to change people's mentality,” he says. Massimo Milani, President of the Steering Committee – The turning point began in some way in 2013, when the National Pride was held in the city: from then on, I felt that something was revolutionizing. My role, however, also requires a great responsibility: the Pride we have created is an absolutely political Pride, and it must be remembered that there are still those who perceive it as a folkloristic occasion or a "farce." But in a country where fringes of silence, violence, discrimination, and oppression still persist, Pride is and should be experienced as an opportunity that inspires courage, pride, and liberation for all – and he concludes – Over the years, we have worked on many issues, including migration, women, students, and employment. This year, the central theme will be the Body, a theme that is not, as some have commented, ancient or outdated, but rather a challenge because the self-determination of the body is the right to which we all aspire and towards which we must strive.
“Like last year, in 2017 we also want to include the community as much as possible in the programming of the cultural and artistic calendar of Pride through a simple and inclusive call for proposals – comments Luigi Carollo, Member of the board of the Palermo Pride Coordination Committee – This choice was born and moves fully in line with the spirit of Pride, and it should be emphasized that this year, given the delicate theme chosen, it is truly important for the entire city to collaborate on what is a challenge for us: developing the theme of the Body as a political subject, bearer of rights, desires, and liberation.
