It was a resounding success! The radical association Certi Diritti, the LGBT rights advocates – Rete Lenford, and the Circolo Arcobaleno Arcigay Arcilesbica of Trieste would like to sincerely thank everyone who participated in the Bavisela Family yesterday, Sunday, May 6th, wearing the group's T-shirt with the slogan "Civil rights? We don't want to be last!" to draw attention to the proposed municipal resolution on combating discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The same associations had presented the resolution to Trieste city councilors in November last year, but it has not yet been discussed by the city council.
Gay, bisexual, and straight people ran wearing the group's T-shirt, demonstrating that civil rights concerns everyone and that our city's administrators cannot ignore it.
Also noteworthy was the presence of city and provincial councilors and political representatives from the Democratic Party, the Five Star Movement, and SEL, who decided to run with us to support our fight to make Trieste an inclusive and respectful city for all. Thanks also to Antonio Parisi, the Jotassassina group, and the Acquolina Association, who contributed to the initiative's success.
Now the most important milestone is the City Council meeting, where the organizers finally expect the resolution, to guarantee all people civil and social rights without discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation, to be discussed and voted on. The three associations will continue to follow all the steps leading to the desired outcome, presenting their T-shirts, a symbol of their civic commitment that will not give up as long as discrimination persists, effectively undermining the principles of equality and social dignity enshrined in our Constitution.
