""A Sea of Civil Partnerships. Homosexuality as a Global Right." This was the title of last Sunday's meeting, organized by Studenti.Net and the Young Left to reaffirm the two organizations' commitment to the Italian LGBT movement.
‘The initiative took place as part of the "Mediterranean Youth Festival," Studenti.Net's national camp, which this year took place in Scilla (RC), in the splendid setting of the Strait of Messina. A week of political debate attended by approximately two hundred young men and women from across Italy, including prominent speakers such as Luciano Violante, Marco Minniti, and Marina Sereni.
A Sea of Peace
Sunday evening was dedicated to addressing the homosexual issue from multiple perspectives. The national president of Arcigay Sergio Lo Giudice he set the tone for the debate, providing participants with the general framework for correctly understanding the issues raised by the homosexual movement. Renato Sabbadini, head of foreign affairs for Arcigay, illustrated the situation of gays and lesbians in various areas of the planet, focusing in particular on the recent "Queer for Peace" experience, which saw an Italian LGBT delegation bear witness to peace in the Middle East. Michael Bellomo, spokesperson for Bari Pride 2003, in his first public appearance after the attack last July, spoke about the experience of Pride as a driving force for change in the reality of the South, making an appeal for a new era of rights to start from the younger generations.
The vice president of the’Arcigay EOS Calabria, Antonio Tardi, spoke about the experiences of Calabrian gays, denouncing the difficulties faced by those who, even today, are forced to take a pioneering approach. Naturally, considerable attention was given to the "UnPACSavanti" campaign, gathering signatures from participants and a pledge to continue this shared struggle.
