In Turin, Arcigay is present with the “Ottavio Mai” Territorial Committee”, reborn within the experience of the Organizing Committee of the Turin Pride 2006 by the will of a group of volunteers*. It started the project of Rainbow House, the home of all, a public and private place, inhabited by 22 associations, not only LGBTQIA, a mental and physical place of interaction and contamination of different ideas. The Arcigay Territorial Committee of Turin owes its name to Ottavio Mai, co-founder of the Turin GLBT Film Festival "From Sodom to Hollywood" (now Lovers Film Festival), of which the association has always been a partner for initiatives and collaborations. Arcigay Torino organizes various moments of aggregation and socialization, of in-depth analysis of our defining themes, of debate and active citizenship. All spaces are open and welcoming, and one can grow by developing a greater awareness of oneself and of the diversity that enriches the world we live in, without ever forgetting the fundamental dimension of fun. The association also provides important services to the community: from Pronto Arcigay listening and reception desk, the first fundamental point of arrival for those who need to discuss and explore issues related to sexual orientation and gender identities, SanArcobaleno, where you can get rapid HIV and syphilis tests and see a doctor for information about STIs (sexually transmitted infections).
The committee operates in the territory through its thematic groups.
More specifically, Arcigay Torino orients its activities according to the following principles:
- create the conditions for self-determination, the full realization and correct visibility of each person;
- combat stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination and violence in all forms, also and above all with an intersectional approach, including through the training and updating of volunteers*, social workers, educators and teachers, public and private workers;
- promote greater awareness of the demands for civil rights, self-determination, overcoming stereotypes and prejudices and the fight against discrimination in public opinion, including through intervention in the mass media and the activation of its own information tools and opportunities;
- build dialogues and bridges with other associations, LGBTQIA and otherwise, with unions, social forces and movements in order to strengthen the fight against discrimination and prejudice with an intersectional approach.
In collaboration with other associations, Arcigay organizes and participates in the January 27th celebrations. Remembrance Day, March 31 TDoV – Trans* Visibility Day, May 17 International Day Against Homophobia, Lesbianphobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, June 20 World Refugee Day, July 14 International Non-Binary Visibility Day, September 23 Bisex Visibility Day, as of October 11th Coming Out Day, November 8th Intersex Day of Remembrance and, in collaboration with the Turin Pride Coordination, the organization of the Turin Pride and of the Trans Freedom March and other opportunities for united mobilization at local and national levels.
